Condo Remodeling Preparation

Here are a few tips before you get started on your condo remodeling or renovation projects:

  • Review the status certificate of your condominium. This document provides info regarding the laws governing your building. Read throughly and get clarification when needed. Any questions to the board should be in writing or via email for your records.

  • DIY in a condo is very difficult becuase most times the only period of time in which workers are allowed to provide construction services in your unit is during the weekdays from 9 - 5. Hire a Contractor that is licensed and insured but also has experience working in condos.

  • Get formal approvals in writing before you begin work and check to see if mid-job inspections need to be completed by the condo corporation.

  • Make arrangements wtih staff on site to reserve parking or freight elevators for crews and delieveries.

  • Be a good neighbor - let your immediate neigbors know that it might get a little noisy. Pro Tip: providing thank you cards for their patience and ear plugs go a long way here.
